Warlords at grid location BS640454, spotted an enemy base camp with fighting positions, trenches and bunkers. Will put TAC air on the location. Aero scouts put a gun run on the location already.
1215 hrs.
FAC (HELIX 32) conducted an AS into grid location BS640454 and destroyed 7 bunkers, and started 2 secondary fires.

Received report from Delta Company at grid location BS640454; the last 1st & 3rd  platoons moved into a enemy base camp and the base camp was under construction but an AS had destroyed almost everything there. The only articles found were some pots and pans.

Delta Company at grid location BS640454, found another NVA base camp. It was an ammo and re-supply route. The camp was abandoned when Delta Company CA' d  into the area. In it was 16 bunkers (8' x 8'x 4'deep). 1CP bunker, 10 blue uniforms, 50 pounds of polished rice, 1 lb salt, 5 saws (cross-cut) 1 NVA entrenching tool, 1 NVA canteen, 1st aid packs, remains of a US map, some documents, 1 ID card for a female, and 1 NVA pack.

Alpha Company's 2nd platoon sprang their ambush) on 3 VC (one had a red flashlight) but results are unknown. 81 mm mortars where also called into the ambush area. After the element returned to their NDP.

Alpha Company checked out the area where their ambush was triggered last night at grid location BS670413. Three sets of foot prints were discovered. The VC appeared  to be setting up a ambush in the same area sa Alpha Company  prior to being discovered & fired upon. Negative blood trails were discovered.

Alpha Company KIA 1 VC with an AK-47 rifle, and pack, 40 lbs. of rice, 1 pistol belt, canteen & officers belt. The NVA was moving East to West near Alpha's Company perimeter when he was spotted and was engaged with a M-60 MG.

At 061500H May 69  1 US from Bravo's Company. while walking on a trail stumbled causing his M-16 rifle to discharge and a round ricocheted off a rock and struck him in the left leg behind the knee.

Alpha Company's 2nd platoon at grid location BS609392, engaged 5 VC evading with small arms fire resulting in ; 2 VC KIA and wearing black pj's with  packs. Negative weapons/ID/or documents found.

Alpha Company at grid location BS610409, found 1 60mm mortar round, 1 60mm mortar shell, 2 chicoms grenades, a small amount of medical supplies ( bandages, tape, malaria pills and antiseptics ).

Alpha Company at grid location BS609407, found 2 50' lengths of electrical wires, 75 picks, 15 sand bags of rice (destroyed) 50  punji stakes, 1 US type blanket and 1 NVA pack.

Sgt Winkler from Battalion notified the 4/3 Infantry TOC that Bravo Company 4/3 will return to 4/3 Infantry control. To arrive  at the Southeast pad at LZ Bronco at approx 1200 hrs May 9, 1969.

09 May 69 0425

Recon platoon at grid location BS 656407, set off 2 flares and blew 2 claymores. May have taken incoming round from Navy Guns. Will report more in morning.

Alpha Company's 3rd platoon at grid location 601423, observed 1 NVA evading & engaged him with small arms fire with results; 1 NVA KIA and was wearing green fatigues with pack , but negative weapons. The pack contained; medical supplies, clothes, plastic and a block of unknown explosives. In his wallet there were found some documents. All material  will be forwarded to San Juan Hill.

09  May 69 1530

Alpha Company's 1st platoon at grid location BS613423, found a small NVA base camp & 2 graves containing 2 bodies in NVA uniforms & belts (approx3-4 weeks old). Cause of death is unknown. Also found 1 hooch and several holes.

Personnel involved KHA Smith, Charles PFC and Williamson, Ervin PFC and WHA Vann, Joseph SP4, Robenson, Earnest PFC Dust Off was requested and completed at 0913 hrs.

Alpha Company's 1st platoon at grid location BS619421, found a food cache of canned goods buried in the ground ; In the 604 bags of  2.2 lbs. of salt, 670 cans of 5 oz mackerel, 126 cans of 15 oz mackerel. 568 cans of  1 lb 13 oz ham (US type), 29 cans of 15oz Pork (US type) and 61 cans 12oz lunch meat (US type).

11 May 69 1315H

Bravo Company had 1 US EM received a bullet wound from  a round that exploded when a fire started at Bravo Company's NDP. All elements were forced to leave the NDP site and had to leave equipment and ammo. The man was dusted off by C&C ship at 1320 hrs. Equipment left behind; 1 PRC 25 radio, 6 starlight scopes, and 1 weapon. All equipment has been located.

Alpha Company checked out grid location BS614420, the suspected grid from their mortar attack 1t 2020 hrs. 12 May, and found; 2 NVA KIA, 1 AK-47 serial # 10082516, 4 AK-47 magazines, 1 grenade, 3 grenade duds, 1 1/2 time fuse, 1 satchel  charge, 5 x 1 1/2 lb charges w/detonators, 1 NVA belt with star, assorted documents and 1 satchel charge.

Charlie Company at grid location BS605435, found 2 NVA packs. In the 1st pack was; 100 rounds of AK-47 ammo, 1st aid pack, 2 sets of clothing, 2 rain jackets, Chinese money, stamps, map of AO, documents and a notebook. Items found in the second pack were; 50 rounds of AK-47 ammo, small amount of rice, medical supplies, 2 NVA ponchos, 1 NVA uniform, 1 ID card, and also found 2 chicom claymore grenades, 4 RPG boosters, 1 NVA pistol belt w/star, 1 NVA canteen cup, 1 US ammo pouch. Later in the same area Charlie Company found 1 BAR w/serial # 5564208, a bag w/ blasting caps, documents, 200 rounds of AK-47 ammo, 1st aid pack, and some det cord.

1501 hrs.

Charlie Company found some NVA green uniforms, 2 blocks of TNT and 25 rounds of AK-47 ammo, that was hidden under a rock at grid location BS605435.

Late Entry: At 1045 hrs. C&C ship evacuated 2 US EM's from Charlie Company that were wounded by an AS put in close to their position. WHA from Co. C with wounds from air strike close to there position.

Dust off called for 1 US EM from Delta Company 4/21 Infantry. Individual had head wounds due to a claymore that exploded during a fire on FSB John. Dust off completed at 1430 hrs.

Late Entry; At 1530 hrs Delta Company's 2nd platoon at grid location BS626407, found; 1 AK-47 rifle serial # BB0190, 20 NVA canteens, 3 RPG-7 rounds, 3 pith helmets, clothes (mostly pants0), 2 entrenching tools, 1 pair of bolt cutters, 20 hammocks, 1st aid dressings, 3 AK-47 magazines (empty), 20 loose rounds of AK-47 ammo, 15 chicoms grenades, 1 flashlight, 1 lb of rice, 20 NVA gas masks, 1 M-26 grenade, 1 lb of black gun powder, 3 bangalore torpedoes and also found some blood trails leading Southeast.

Bravo Company's 3rd platoon at grid location BS588388, found 500 lbs of rice and some documents. The rice was destroyed and the documents were back hauled to LZ San Juan Hill.

Late Entry; At 0745 hrs. Bravo Company at grid location BS595389, found 3 huts, 30-35 sleeping positions and 1 bicycle (in poor condition).

Bravo Company's 1st platoon at grid location BS594381, found 5 hooches-not recently used, sleeping positions, and 2 caches of rice approx 750 lbs. The rice was destroyed.

23 May 69 1300

Bravo Company's 1st platoon at grid location BS594391, spotted 1 VC evading into a tunnel and followed him and threw a frag grenade into the tunnel; Results; 1 VC KIA wearing black pj's and carrying SKS rifle serial # 11320399. The VC had negative ID and documents.

One  US EM from Delta Company will be extracted to LZ San Juan Hill due to reoccurring FUO.

Delta Company's 3rd & 2nd  LP blew 3 claymore mines and engaged with small arms fire, when they thought they saw movement; results are unknown.

Delta Company's 3rd platoon, checked area where their LP heard movement earlier and found nothing.

Charlie Company at grid location BS596409, found; 2 50 cal MG pos, 12 two man fighting positions (camouflaged) and expended 50 cal and AK-47 brass. The fighting positions were approx 3-4 weeks old.

Late Entry; At 1700 hrs. C&C ship dusted off 2 US EM's from Bravo  for heat exhaustion. Dust off completed at 1710 hrs.

Late Entry; At 2030 hrs. Charlie Company spotted 2 VC approx 100 meters from their perimeter. Charlie Company observed 1 VC fall as they fired M-60 MG, M-79 rounds and 81mm mortars into the area. The other VC evaded. Both VC had weapons. Charlie Company will check out the area in the morning.

At 1800 hrs. C&C ship dusted off 3 US EM's from Bravo Company and 2 US EM's from Charlie Company (1 was a 2nd Lt) for wounds received from punji stakes.

 25 May 69 1903

At 1903 hrs. a dust off was completed for 1 US EM from Delta Company with 105 degree temperature. Possible malaria.

Late Entry; At 2047 hrs. Charlie Company picked up, on their Arty radio, a transmission by a NVA soldier. The NVA stated there about 200 men in his unit and 100 were equipped with weapons. The NVA making the transmission was complaining because he had been in South Vietnam for about two weeks and still didn't have a weapon. The NVA also stated that there were about 10 from his unit that were sick.

26 May 69 0725

Delta Company's 2nd platoon engaged 4 or more NVA with packs & weapons at grid location BS665382. Three of the NVA were off of a trail and 1 was walking along the trail. Results were negative.

Charlie Company reports NVA/VC on their organic net. Their interpreter said when the VC/NVA monitored Charlie Company transmissions..they ceased transmitting. 

25 May 69 1350

Urgent dust off requested for Alpha Company on LZ San  Juan Hill, for 1 US EM with 104.5 temperature. Dust off completed at 1350 hrs.

US casualties 1 US EM WHA seriously from Alpha Company. Charlie Company at grid location BS683374, spotted 3-4 NVA at grid location BS681371 and engaged them with small arms fire and are now in contact. One US EM received a small hand wound but serious enough for a dust off. Arty and gunships were called in to assist.

Charlie Company at grid location BS681374, found a VC base camp, with; expended AK-47 rounds, cooking gear, 10 2man sleeping quarters, 25-30 fox holes and to a ladder leading to a OP in a tree. The OP offered excellent observation of LZ San Juan Hill.

LZ San Juan Hill received 7 incoming 82mm mortar rounds from grid location BS620392. There were negative casualties or damage. The attack lasted approx 10 minutes. Counter mortar attack with; 8" Arty 9 HE rounds expended, 155 mm Howitzer 30 HE rounds expended, 105mm Howitzer 64 HE rounds were expended, 4.2 mortar 33 HE were expended & 16 illumination, 81mm mortar 21 HE were expended and 3 illumination.

Received report from Warlords: At grid location BS627448, destroyed 100 lbs of rice, found 10 uniforms, several packs, tools, shovels, utensils, and several hooches. At grid location BS657388, found complex with approx 25 bunkers.

Bravo Company requests a priority dust off for 1 US EM with a 105 degree temperature. Dust off completed at 1335 hrs. Pfc Bobby Yates

Received report from Warlords: At grid location BS628442 destroyed camouflaged Leontos, also fighting positions. At grid location  BS620464 & grid location BS621460 destroyed 4 camouflaged hooches and fighting positions, At grid locat -ion BS606503 The Warlords observed 1 NVA in a green uniform, w/pack and evading. The NVA was engaged, but the results were negative. 

28 May 69 1635

Charlie Company's 1st platoon observed 4 NVA in green uniforms at grid location BS693385 and engaged them, with results; 1 NVA KIA and 1 AK-47 serial # 12065515 rifle. CIA ; 3 chicom grenades, medical dressing, a notebook, a hammock and a pistol belt w/star. Also the 1st platoon WIA 1 NVA but he was dragged away. Arty mission was called in.

Delta Company's 3rd platoon at grid location BS612405, engaged 6-8 NVA/VC wearing green uniforms and carrying weapons with small arms fire, but results were negative.

Late Entry; At 1120 hrs. an urgent dust off was completed for 1 US EM from Bravo Company at grid location BS724389 with FUO of 104 degree temperature.

Charlie Company's 3rd platoon at grid location BS691386 ambushed 2 NVA resulting in ; 2 NVA KIA. The NVA were carrying 2 pistol belts, 2 canteens (1 US type & 1 NVA type), 1st aid packs, 3 chicoms grenades, 1 NVA entrenching tool, 2 US entrenching tools, 2 hammocks, 1 rifle cleaning kit but had negative weapons.

Charlie Company reported that they have been hearing movement on all sides of their perimeter. One VC was spotted and 81mm mortar fire was put on him and Charlie Company thinks they wounded him. Arty is being called in.

24 hour CEASE FIRE in effect at this time honoring the birthday of Buddha.

Bravo Company's 1st platoon found 5 containers of CS gas (3 full & 2 partially full) canisters, which are cylinder shaped 3 inches long and 1 inch in diameter at a grid location BS 723389. The containers had a red stripe midway down their sides. Nomenclature XM16 lot #BWD 1-3. Will be moved to LZ Bronco.

Delta Company at grid location BS609407 request a routine dust off for 1 US EM from Delta Company, for a possible broken ankle. The individual tripped over a trip flare. Dust off was completed at 0735 hrs.
