Charlie Company CP requested urgent dust-off DTG 010756, for 1 US EM SSG Floyd E, Cunningham. Was passing out and experienced chills and fluctuating pulse and dialated eyes. Fever up & down. Dust-off completed at 0826 hrs.

Late Entry: Bravo Company's 2nd platoon, 2nd squad, at grid location BS583456, DTG 011053, while on patrol the above element spotted 2 VC wearing black pj's. They had no packs and was carrying an AK-47. Element engaged them and the VC's fled in a southern direction. Element followed VC for 50 meters and then lost track of them. They were believed to have fled into the brush.

Late Entry; Charlie Company's 3rd platoon, 1st squad, at grid location BS 605471, DTG 011455, found a enemy ammo cache, containing 12 RPG rounds, 2- 82 mm rounds, 9 rocket boosters, 21 rocket booster fuses, 21 shot gun shells. In addition they found 5 2x1 unopened boxes-weighing 20 lbs each. They opened one box and it contained 3 RPG rounds and 3 boosters. The other 4 boxes were the same. They also found 15 chicoms and 1 piece of unknown class 5. They are cutting a Landing Zone at this time and all captured will be back hauled. The cache was found in a natural cave on the side of the mountain.

Charlie Company's 1st platoon, 2nd squad had a friendly firing at BS602461, and while going to wake up next guard-EM went outside of the perimeter and was shot by friendly fire. Will DO in the morning.

Late Entry; Charlie Company's 2nd platoon, 3rd squad, at grid 613464, DTG 010842, had a mech detonate. Results; 1 VC KIA, w/negative weapon, negative documents or unit designation. VC was carrying a canvas bag with the following items: 1 cigarette lighter, 1 GI mess kit spoon, 1 VN hammock, a small cooking pot approximately 10" in diameter, 1 NVA poncho, pig food-made up of grain and nuts. He had extra shorts and shirt, 1 bottle of pills, 1 pair of sandals. The VC were heading East when he hit the mech.Was a male approximately 30 years old, had close hair cut, blue shirt black shorts and was wearing a NVA poncho. Will back haul and strip.

While on patrol, Delta Company's 3rd platoon, 1st squad, at grid location BS 703427, DTG 703427, found papers with pictures of VC/NVA weapons on them. Papers were 3"x5" and looked like they may have tried to burn them. They looked like they were possibly training aids. Will back haul.

While on patrol, Bravo Company's 2nd platoon, 1st squad, at the grid location BS587457, DTG 041014, found a 81mm HE round. Along top part was written 81mm HE M574 BOP10. The rest was unreadable. Found along a streambed, with a lot of shrapnel in the area. 81mm was still intact. Also found what appear -ed to be a aluminum alloy I-beam 2' long and 9" wide and 2" thick. It is believed to be part of the bomb. A lot of melted tar on the rocks near by. 81mm was destroyed.

Late Entry: While on patrol, Charlie Company CP, 4th platoon, at grid location BS602468, DTG 040940, walked down the trail, spotted fresh Ho Chi Minh tracks before encountering 1 NVA. The point man and others in the element shot at him with s/a fire. Result; 1 NVA KIA. They believe he was in the process of setting out a booby trap because they found a green nylon cord by the KIA. They found 1 AK-47 in good condition and 1 full clip of ammo. They also got 1 pistol belt with magazine pouch, 2 chicoms, small amount of rice in a sandbag, 1 NVA helmet. All will be back hauled.

Charlie Company's 1st platoon, 2nd squad at grid location BS 607464, while on patrol the squad found 3 hooches. First hooches were empty, The third one contained 3 SKS rifles in poor condition and 1 ruck containing 1 AM /FM radio-brand name General, 3 NVA cape jackets and 1 brown pair of pj's. Found in third hooch was 1 AK-47 magazine-empty, and 2 shovels. also 300 lbs of corn in a trough. Additional information on page log.

Delta Company's 2nd platoon, 1st squad, at grid 690440, while moving East-West on patrol. when the unit spotted 1 VC/NVA and engaged at approximately 50-75 feet w/small arms fire, at about the same time ...four more VC/NVA were observed at the same location. All 5 evaded to the SW. Personnel were wearing green pants & shirts-one man had aAK-47. He returned light fire and three used cartridges were found. While chasing evading enemy personnel...the element found a small NVA base camp recently used at grid 687437, they found 3 hooches 5'x5'10' long; they were made of bamboo & trees. Late Entry: Ref hooches found, DTG 041315, by Charlie Company's 1st platoon, 2nd squad, same element also found 18 RPG rounds between 1st & 2nd hooches. Found 10 short RPG boosters, 8 long boosters, and 1-30 lb shape charge with funnel attached. Funnel had a small pull device. Also found 1 roll of black wire 300 feet long. The boosters were in 5 gallon Esso oil cans. RPG's were found under rocks...Will back haul.

Charlie Company's 1st platoon.1st squad, at grid location BS 614467, DTG 051150, had one confirmed KIA. The VC/NVA was wearing khakis. He was in a hooch and they captured his AK-47(passed to Bde/Barth 051204). AK-47 contained 1 magazine w/12 rounds. Serial # 12052894. On his person were 3-1.5 US batteries, 1 piece 2"x 4" inch Vietnamese letter, cigarette lighter, flint , razor, a pouch of tobacco. Man was 23 years old,and wearing Ho Chi Minh sandals. In same area, one VC/NVA was observed evading SE on a NS trail.Wearing a green uniform, with weapon. Three hooches 10' x 10' and made of grass and bamboo. The two men were engaged while leaving hooch. The man that evaded ..returned w/small arms fire-5 rounds. Enemy believed to be wounded. Additional information is available in page log.

Bravo Company's 2nd platoon, 1st squad, at the grid location BS 591453, while on patrol up a stream bed and moving South, they came upon action; 1 enemy personnel fired first w/AK-47 and believed to have fired from hooch with bunker in it and resulted in : 1 friendly KIA. Engaged enemy with M-60, M-16,M-203 & hand frags... checked out bunker. Moved on and found 3 hooches covering a area 200 x 200 meters . 1st hooch were 12 x 6 x6. Had to leave area to get KIA to LZ to be extracted and will link up with another element and check area out further tomorrow.

While patrolling, the Recon CP at the grid location BS576422, found 3 hooches, made of thatched straw and poles. The first 2 hooches were 8' x 12' and about 10 meters from the trail. (trails went in between hooches) Hooches were in very thick brush and weren't visible from the trail. The element then found them by smelling them. The third hooch looked like a storage hooch and was 8' x8'. Hooches contained; 2 lbs of rice, 4 small potatoes, small pieces of cloth, 1 pair of black shorts, 1 AK-47 round. The hooches were about 3-4 months old, and 200-300 meters from rice paddies. There were two good trails in the vincinty, NW-SE, and W-E. Outside were two small cooking fires and were used within the last 24 hours. hooches contained 2 small cooking pots. Hooches were burned, pots smashed....Trails were well used.

Late Entry: While on patrol Delta Company's 1st platoon, 1st squad, at grid location BS 675431, DTG 061500, found 3 hooches located next to East-West stream bed. There is also East-West trail in the area. Hooches were 4' x 8' x 4' and made of bamboo & straw. Found inside: 5 pair of plastic sandals, 2 US canteens, 2 cooking pots-10" diameter, 1 tea pot, 2 woven baskets(10"dia). Hooches used 7 days ago. They are about a year old. Hooches were destroyed and trails were to be MAPed tonight.

Late Entry: Recon, 1st squad, while on patrol at grid location BS 557421, DTG 061425, engaged and killed 1 NVA/VC and captured 1 AK-47 and implements for the making of booby traps. Heard sounds of baby crying about 30 meters to the West. Checked pockets of dead of NVA/VA and found: 1 wallet w/2 personal letters and 1 military ID card.Will back haul. After searching the one dead enemy, the 1st squad requested Arty Aerial Observer. The observer came on station at 061530. 52 HE rounds were expended in support of 1st Squad.At 061615, 1 click and 2 gunships came on station to insert 4 more additional personnel and to support the squad on the ground. Late Entry; while patrolling grid location BS 552426, Recon CP DTG 071000-071130, found 6 hooches-sizes 1-5 by 5, 1-5 by, 1-8 by 12, 3-8 by 8. Each was made of bamboo and straw and each had overhead bunker cover. Bunkers approximate size were all 4' x4' x6'. In the vincinty were 2 cow pens. In hooches and cow pens, there was a total of 6 rice knives, 2 shovels, 2 plows, 12 rice sifters, 2 axes, 4 hoes, 2 ox collars, 4 pair of shorts, 3 shorts, 5 pigs, 2 water buffaloes. All hooches in good condition, 6-8 months old, all used within 24 hours, including cow pens.All hooches were 50-100 meters up into the wood line and above the well cultivated rice paddies. The biggest trail in area was E-W, but there was as many as 20 trails in the vicinity and running in all directions. In the vicinity of hooches, besides trails there were 8-1 man fighting positions and 3 bunkers w/overhead cover and firing ports. hooches had good concealment for the air. Killed all animals and destroyed all hooches and equipment that was found.

Late Entry; While on patrol, Delta Company's 1st platoon, 1st squad, at grid location BS665428, DTG 071257, element was moving down trail South-North, and spotted another trail running in the same direction. They heard a noise about 50 meters to their front. The entire element maneuvered and the point man fired on a crouched enemy. Results; 1 VC/NVA KIA. Spotted one enemy evading to the North...Negative pursuit. Enemy KIA was approx - 30 years old. KIA had on; jungle hat, black pj bottoms, green shirt, plastic sandals. VC/NVA was carrying AK-44 w/7 rounds, 1 hammock, a medical bag with pills and bandages, 1 US pistol belt, 1 NVA canteen, 1 knife, flashlight, cigarette lighter, red wallet, small amount of piasters, and papers. Serial # of weapon : 92297. Weapon was in good condition...KIA had negative unit determination. All items will be back hauled.

Late Entry; Alpha Company 2/1 at grid location BS 596420, on 07 Dec 1700 found a small rice field 100 x 100 feet. Nothing was done with the rice field. There was a well used trail, running E-SW, and used within the last couple of days. Element searched the area and found a bunker.

At 1442 hrs. at grid location BS554423, 2 Recon snipers engaged 2 VC/NVA at 300 meters in a open area. Result; 1 VC/NVA KIA and 1 VC/NVA WIA. A team went down to the engagement area finding the KIA. They found rice, documents, some cloth, a belt w/ammo pouch, ammo pouches, contained 4 AK rounds. Also found a hammock poncho, a OD para -chute, a AK sling, some string, a metal bowl & spoon, a rice knife, and a camera film container. He was wearing black pj's and had unit designation. All will be back hauled.

Charlie Company 4/1 at grid location BS 599463, had a mech ambush go off resulting in one KIA. The element searched the area finding the KIA had 25-30 feet from where it originally hit. He was wearing green fatigue shirt and grey pants. Ho Chi Minh sandals and no documents or unit designation, He was 27 years old and is 5' 5"and had a 4 1/2 scar on his left wrist. On his person he had: 1 knife, 3 GI heating tablets, 1 packet of GI coffee, 1 packet of Kool-Aid, 1 enemy poncho, 1 camouflage cover, and a pouch containing 4 lbs of rice. He also had a Budweiser can that is believed to be used for cooking. Will be back hauled.

Late Entry; Alpha Company 3rd platoon, at 1430 hrs. at grid location BS 613414, were on patrol and came upon 3 hooches-15' x 10' . In one hooch there was warm coals, bowl of rice, and 2 weapons: 1 AK 44, 1 M-2 carbine...both of the weapons were old. Hooches were made of bamboo poles with leaves and grass over them. They were in recent use and good condition. They also found 2 tunnels-size3'x 4' x 10 foot deep, in recent use. Trails running E-NE & N- All trails were well used. Spotted 2 enemy personnel evading to the N-NW. One male & one female, both wearing black pj's. The male had a white head band. Went after fleeing enemy personnel and had negative results. will mech all trails tonight. Weapon serial # AK-441087k. The M-2 carbine numbers were unreadable. The AK-44 was in firing condition & M-2 rusty and believed it will not fire.

Alpha Company 3/2, at 1140 hrs. at grid location BS 615416, While on patrol they found one hooch 5' x 10' that was 6-8 months old and probably used one month ago. The hooch was located to the side of the East-West trail. It was made of bamboo sticks and the roof was made of leaves. The hooch contained 1 GI ruck sack, 1 NVA ruck sack, 1 satchel charge, 3 bottles with wicks, 100 feet of commo wire, 25 lbs of wheat grain, documents, 2 photo's, Ruck Sack's and documents will be back hauled.

Late Entry; Charlie Company 1/3 at 1515 hrs. and at the grid location BS 622458 while they were on patrol found a weapon cache containing : 2 US M-1 rifles (serial #s 2465311 & 5714846) 3 US 81 mm mortar tubes (sn# 28871-3783-other unreadable) 2 PRC-10 radios US (sn#LSD 5091-2572), 1 hand set, 5 French 7.5mm machine guns w/tripods (sn# MLE 1931-4015 / MLE 1831-7269-others unreadable) 2 magazines, 2 French 7.5 mm automatic rifles w/ 3magazines-(sn#'s unreadable). 1 M-2 carbine US (sn# unreadable), 2 30 cal tripods, 1 French 7.5mm rifle(sn#4152), 1 North Vietnamese 7.62mm submachine gun type 50 (sn#366421), 2-9mm French submachine gun (sn#18621-other unreadable), 1 case 51 cal rounds, 1-20mm round & 21-57mm recoilless rifle rounds. All equipment very rusty and in poor condition. Found in open area in clump of trees....found in torn down hooch with leaves over the cache.

Late Entry: Charlie Company 3/3 at 1515 hrs. and at the grid location BS 619441, while on patrol got 1 KIA. Female with dark hair, 14 years old and was wearing black clothes and was ......carrying 2 bags of oranges. Spotted 4 enemy personnel. Wounded one and followed blood trail approximately 100 meters to the South West and lost trail. When spotted enemy personnel moving West up a stream bed. Negative trails in area Documents negative.....unit designation negative....Two of the running enemy were wearing black and 1 little naked boy. Enemy personnel was 75 meters away when spotted.

Late Entry; Bravo Company 1/1 at grid location BS 561399, at 1230 hrs. while on patrol up ravine and moving North, they spotted 3 hooches. Two VC/NVA ran from hooches, element engaged and had negative results. The KIA moved on up the trail to the North. Element went after them and had negative results. While following them up the trail found 7 more hooches. All hooches were 3' x 6' x 5' and made of bamboo and some wood. In one hooch was 10 lbs of rice and warm coals. In another they found 2 M-16 empty magazines & 16 M-16 loose rounds. Hooches were in a very vegetated area and two trails in the area were running NS and the other one SE-NW. One of the VC/NVA was wearing black, and the other one was wearing black bottoms and red top. Enemy personnel was 20-30 meters away when engaged. Hooches will be destroyed.

Bravo Company 2/2 at time DTG 130920, at the grid location BS 557420,at the vicinity of NL-they captured one possible VC. He was about 16 years old and was carrying 2 M-16 magazines w/ ammo, 1 knife, and 1 razor blade. In the vincinty of the 133V and 135V elements, and his movement was heard on a trail running E-W. The 133V element set up a hasty ambush on the trail. The man walked into the ambush and one of the personnel jumped up and pointed his M-16 at him. The man grabbed the muzzle of the weapon, but did not resist. This man approached the ambush from the West, and was wearing a OD shirt and blue shorts. He was carrying negative ID or documents. In his passion was found 1 sand bag containing;2 M-16 magazines with a total of 10 rounds, a ball of clay, some rags, 2 rice knives, one of which he was carrying at time of capture. One sniff bottle that was about 2" high. The man was taken to San Juan Hill by redleg observer LOH at 131030. From SJH he will be taken to BDE after interrogation. Also found in vincinty of CIA along the trail were; 2 pair of black shirts, 2 pairs of OD pants, 3 OD ammo pouches, 1 picture of a communist flag.

Late Entry; Bravo Company 1/2 at 1230 hrs. at grid location BS 552409, while on patrol they came upon 5 hooches sizes 6x8x5, 6x15x5, 8x10x7, 3x5x3, 5x6x6, constructed of bamboo with thatched grass roofs & walls. Three of the hooches were on stilts, and were 4-5 months old and in good condition recently used within last 24 hours; The element moved forward and found 2 more hooches-6'x 10' x 7', and 6'x 10'x 5'. Constructed of bamboo and thatched grass roofs and walls. One of the hooches was on stilts, age , condition, and usage is the same as the above hooches. Contents were: 1 GI canteen, 1 empty M-16 magazine, 4 M-60 ammo cans. In tunnel they found : 2 SKS with serial #'s 5220007 and 1968 bolt...# 1142940 and 1959 bolt. Bravo Company 1/1 at DTG 131900, and at the grid location BS 547417, had a mech detonate at 131900. They will check it out in the morning. The mech detonated at 1900 hrs. last night, checked it out at first light.... results; one 28 year old male KIA. He had on OD green short sleeve shirt. They searched the area and found a first aid pack and first aid bandage were both covered with blood near the body. The trail was very well used, and running East-West. When the mech detonated, the element heard children screaming and crying. The KIA had no wallet, identification, no papers, only a shirt. found more items that were reported at 140900; a leather wallet, a piece of paper (will be back hauled) also found 1 boy's black shirt, 1 black bottoms, 1 black blouse w/snaps, 2 black shirts, 1 blue shirt, 1 swimming trunks(boys), 1 sandbag of rice, 3 potatoes, 1 piece black cloth 3x8 ft and 1 hammock.

Bravo Company 3/1 at 1230 hrs. and 1330 hrs, and the grid location BS 553424 & 552426, while on patrol, they came across a hooch with a little person sitting in it ...with a pack and weapon. Engaged him and enemy took off, and was wounded. The element followed and at grid 552426, and killed him. Patrol was moving on trail NE-SW on a very used trail. Little person was moving along trail....about 15-20 meters past hooch. He had on black shirt & black bottoms, a bush hat, hair 3 inches long. Pack contained 1 cigarette case, 1 rope, 25' long, 1 pair black pants, 1 bag with 7 pounds of rice, and 1 bag with 5 pounds of rice. Pack was a wicker basket with straps. His AK-47 was in good shape, with a serial # 11042819 w/ bolt # 14406. The man was 20 years old and had a GI type pistol belt w/canteen + cover. The Ak-47 had a magazine with 8 rounds. Hooch was 10'x5'x8' ft on 3' stilts. Trail ran right through the hooch...hooch will be destroyed. Negative papers or unit designation.

Late Entry; Bravo Company's CP: at 0720 hrs. & 0830 hrs. spotted 3 VN in the open and walking across the rice paddies, from S-N. Believed they were working in paddies early this morning, Could not determine if they had packs or weapons,,,so could not fire Arty. Element to observe at this time. Nearest element is approximately 1000 meters. Two more little people moving E-W and moved into the wood line. Both were wearing packs. Worked up fire mission at 1000 meters and fired 4 HE rounds. All were wearing dark clothes and straw hats.

Alpha Company's CP, at 1350 hrs. at grid location BS587409, while on patrol , they found a small hooch with a two room tunnel under it.It was 15' into the ground with both rooms 3'x3' ft. 2 pans were found inside of the tunnel, which showed no signs of recent use. Hooch had a 10'x10' top...May have been top for tunnel. One trail running N-S...Hooch and tunnel destroyed.

Late Entry; The 70th ARVN Rangers at the grid location BS514418, DTG 161205, made contact with a VC element larger than a company. Also found a hospital, in area where contact initiated. After pulling back, the above element moved back through the hospital and found 10 5 gallon cans of rice, 12 chickens, 2 pigs, plasma, IV setups and numerous other medical supplies, including numerous narcotics. Requested 2 sets of guns and a narcotics team.

Bravo Company's 3rd platoon, 2nd squad, at 1725 hrs. at grid location BS614470. The above element at grid spotted one VC moving NorthWest. He was about 50-75 meters away, when they engaged him. He dropped his rut sack & fled to the SE. He was wearing black tops and bottoms. He had a homemade rutsack containing ; 1 3 lb of rice, a homemade 35 lb mine. It had a iron casting and carrying handle. The mine was blown...Enemy was spotted on a well used trail. Fled off the trail through some very heavy cover, along a stream. Numerous trails in the area. A round from the M-60 hit the casting on the mine.

Size 4'x4'x6' ft is old and has been used recently and is in good condition. One trail running in 095 degrees and is well used. Will destroy sleeping positions.

Alpha Company 3/2 at 1510 hrs. at grid location BS 607406, while on patrol moving up the stream bed that was running N-S. Element found 1 hooch-size 5'x5' ft with mud rock floor, with thatched grass roof and sides and bamboo. Last used 3 or 4 days ago. Hooch 9-10 days old...In the triple canopy jungle they found 2-5 gal water blivets with holes in them. Destroyed hooch.

Used very recently the coals were still warm, in the cooking area. hooch contained 5 gallon can of rice, nuts and bananas. Well used trails running W & N. Element will destroy hooch and is continuing to search area.

Recon Cp at 1240 hrs. at the grid location BS 696307, while on patrol, element found old VC/NVA NDP. Looked like 40-50 people had slept there, and was 3-4 months old and had lots of overhead cover, had a small underground oven, and small blue line near the area.

Bravo Company 1/3, at 0710 hrs. at the grid location BS 598473, had one mech detonate at 191900. Checked out area this morning and found , 1 NVA KIA w/1 SKSrifle serial # 19999. One male, 17-18 years old and in good health w/recent haircut, and wearing green military fatigues (NVA type) and black under -wear, rope belt, and carrying 1 small raincoat, 1 pouch with a tooth brush, 1 water proof bag with sterile dressing, 1/2 pound of unpolished rice, 1 small plastic bag-empty, 2 GI socks, 1 p38, 1 money clip-empty, 1 small match box w/4 toothpicks, 2 Ho Chi Minh sandals. NVA left woods and picked up a trail(well used) and running North to a Ville in the area. He carried no wallet or identification. NVA had 2 rounds of SKS.

Bravo Company 3/1 at DTG 191400 at the grid BS 598470, and found, five shallow graves w/ stone markers and paper with Vietnamese writing with the date 21 Nov 70. They were in the bushes along a well used trail and running N-S. Also a stream that runs E-W. The element found this while moving to tentative. Element will check out the graves. Opened two graves...The bodies were stripped and wrapped in Vietnamese raincoat. Bodies were too badly decomposed to determine cause of death.

There were 3 of the element about 800 meters ...and looked like they were moving between foxholes. Called in Arty, and fired 48 HE rounds. Element is checking out area. They say there is still movement up there.

Charlie Company 3/2 at 1413 hrs. at the grid BS734360, came to a fork in the trail. They proceeded on the trail to the NW. The point man detonated a buried chicom. The point man caught shrapnel the chest, stomach and leg. The squad leader received some shrapnel in the back of the leg. The crater was about 6" deep and 10" in diameter.Unable to determine age of booby trap. Dust-off called at 1415 hrs. & completed at 1430 hrs. Line # 16 Delbert R. Bell....Line # 47 Bruce C. Jaeger.....Line # 16 received only minor injuries and was released upon examination.

Bravo Company 2/1 at 1245 hrs. at the grid BS606472, found 3 tunnels and cave complexes that are natural and man made. Trail runs along the ridge line and was last used 6-7 days ago. The trails branched off N & S. tunnel dimensions; 3-4 ft in diameter, 5-6 ft in length. Nothing was found near the caves.

Bravo Company 2/3 at grid BS 717470 at 1800 hrs., observed at 700 meters, 5 VC working at the above location. Element also spotted 1 VC up a tree with what appeared to be a electronic device. The 3rd squad guided the 2nd squad into the area at 1855 hrs. The 2-3 fired into the area the VC evaded in a Southerly direction. Unit found 3 foxholes 2 1/2 x 3 x 4 ft -freshly dug within the past days and there were several bunkers in the area. The unit swept the area and put frags in all the bunkers. Due to the darkness the unit had to suspend its search. Will check out area thoroughly at first light. As of now results are negative. Man in tree disappeared and negative knowledge of what device was..or where it is.

Bravo Company 2/1 at 0930 hrs. at the grid BS612472. Element made investigation of the area where VC were seen yesterday that yielded the following; 4-55 gallon drums-3 empty & 1 full. The full one had writing on top...Shell Oil Company RIMULA OIL 30 wt. Found a piece of black 1" tubing with a hard black casing that was 1" thick and 4' long. A rusty AK-47 with unreadable markings and the rifle can be returned to a serviceable condition. The drums appeared to be there for 3-4 months. These items were found on a small island, that was higher than the surrounding terrain. The method of entrance to the island-appeared to be the intermittent stream bed. Need to know how to dispose of oil... Rifle & tube will be back hauled.

Delta Company 1/2 at DTG 211500 and at grid BS605412. Element found a hooch, that was 8'x 10'. Two trails in the area ran N-S & NE-SW. The hooch had been there 6 months and was in good condition. The lastest use was 2 days ago. there was a booby trap on the trail leading to the hooch. It was a chicom grenade in a glass jar and activated by a trip wire. Nothing of value was found in the hooch, The element will mech the area tonight and destroy it in the morning. Destroyed booby trap with hand grenade.

Bird at San Juan Hill at 0700 hrs 24 Dec. Movement to Bronco prior to 24 Dec . Recommend start movement tomorrow and can use re-supply birds. Charlie Company 1/1 at grid BS747348. element was moving on a East-West trail, when they ran into two VC. One of them appeared to be 6' 1" and looked like a GI, and fired on them. The VC returned approximately 15 rounds of AK fire and evaded to the West and the other toward the 2nd squad element. This element fired on him and then he evaded and went North. One VC had a AK-47, and they were wearing black pj's. In the area where they left shot at thee VC and the 3rd squad found 3 hooches, 6'x 14' x6'/ 6'x 8'x 5' / 6'x 8'x 5' There was running water in one, and one had a earth stove with a pot of boiling water on it. Hooches contained NVA equipment & uniforms and documents and letters......All will be back hauled to San Juan Hill and other things will be destroyed......Additional item information is in page log.

Spot Report; Received from Charlie Company's, 1st platoon, 1st squad, DTG 2800630 at grid BS745361. The above element had a mech set on trail. It was detonated at 0630 hrs. Investigation showed there was one (1) KIA and one (1) blood trail. KIA approximately 24 years old. Male w/ABN haircut, Ho Chi Minh sandals, T shirt, and brownish black pants, He was coming out of the flats going West in the draw. Blood trail went to East. In his pack they found 4 lb of tobacco, 1 can Foremost milk, 20 lb polished rice, 2 ducks, writing paper, 9mm pistol (serial # 66451952) w/2 clips of ammo, a GI pistol belt, 1 lb 13 oz of C-ration Boned Turkey. Items of military interest will be evacuated to SJH.

Charlie Company's 3rd platoon, 1st squad, DTG 281250 Dec at grid BS749349. Element found a small cache under a rock that was covered with two ponchos. There was a small trail nearby, running SW to NE and had been used the previous day. The cache had been placed there approximately one to two weeks ago. Found 200 AK rounds, 10 RPG boosters in a GI ammo can,also two 25 lb shaped charges and two sand bags filled with rocks. Everything will be destroyed.

They estimated it to be about 1 ton of rice, They also found some rice knifes, 200 ft of white cloth, 20 pounds of mosquito netting and 8 NVA uniforms. They are looking for a LZ , so they can back haul the rice & uniforms.

They slipped up on the two VC and killed them...The VC were wearing shorts & T shirts. They were carrying 2 AK-47's and one chicom.The VC were approximately 20 years old, and were wearing Ho Chi Minh sandals. The VC had 2 AK-47's w /4 full magazines, plus 20 extra rounds and 2 pistol belts, The serial numbers on the weapons are #'s11081257 &12086182. Equipment will be back hauled to San Juan Hill. The VC was wearing Ho Chi Minh sandals, green uniform, a pistol belt, and had a NVA Helmet. He was carrying an AK-47 with serial # 54971, w/a full 30 round clip. In the pack he had; cooking utensils, 20 lbs of corn and a 1 gal can of diesel fuel.The can of diesel fuel had the following writing on it "Donated By US" ...Equipment and weapons will be back hauled to San Juan Hill.

Alpha Company 4/1 at 1445 hrs. at the grid BS599463, had one VC/NVA KIA in a mech ambush. He was approximately 20 years old, clean shaven and a recent haircut. He was moving on a N-S trail and traveling South. He was wearing what appeared to be a green NVA uniform with Ho Chi Minh sandals. He was wearing a NVA pistol belt, a NVA bayonet, a GI canteen and cover, a GI ammo pouch, and a NVA poncho. The uniform, NVA equipment, and documents will be back hauled to San Juan Hill.

He was entering, the hooch with his weapon on semi_automatic, when he stepped thru the door, his arm hit the edge causing the weapon to discharge...Dust-off started 1423 hrs & completed at 1515 hrs.

Late Entry; C Co, 3rd platoon, 1st squad, at grid 605471, DTG 011455, found a enemy ammo cache, containing 12 RPG rounds, 2- 82 mm rounds, 9 rocket boosters, 21 rocket booster fuses, 21 shot gun shells. In addition they found 5 2x1 unopened boxes-weighing 20 lbs each. They opened one box and it contained 3 RPG rounds and 3 boosters. The other 4 boxes were the same. They also found 15 chicoms and 1 piece of unknown class 5. They are cutting a LZ at this time and all captured will be back hauled. The cache was found in a natural cave on the side of the mountain.

Was carrying a canvas bag with the following items: 1 cigarette lighter, 1 GI mess kit spoon, 1 VN hammock, a small cooking pot approximately 10" in diameter, 1 NVA poncho, pig food-made up of grain and nuts. He had extra shorts and shirt, 1 bottle of pills, 1 pair of sandals. The VC were heading East when he hit the mech.Was a male approximately 30 years old, had close hair cut, blue shirt black shorts and was wearing a NVA poncho. Will back haul and strip.

While on patrol, B Co, 2nd platoon, 1st squad, at grid 587457, DTG 041014, found a 81mm HE round. Along top part was written 81mm HE M574 BOP10. The rest was unreadable. Found along a streambed, with a lot of shrapnel in the area. 81mm was still intact. Also found what appear -ed to be a aluminum alloy I-beam 2' long and 9" wide and 2" thick. It is believed to be part of the bomb. A lot of melted tar on the rocks near by. 81mm was destroyed.

Late Entry: While on patrol, Co C CP, 4th platoon, at grid 602468, DTG 040940, walked down the trail, spotted fresh Ho Chi Minh tracks before encountering 1 NVA. The point man and others in the element shot at him with s/a fire. Result; 1 NVA KIA. They believe he was in the process of setting out a booby trap because they found a green nylon cord by the KIA. They found 1 AK-47 in good condition and 1 full clip of ammo. They also got 1 pistol belt with magazine pouch, 2 chicoms, small amount of rice in a sandbag, 1 NVA helmet. All will be back hauled.

First hooches were empty, The third one contained 3 SKS rifles in poor condition and 1 ruck containing 1 AM /FM radio-brand name General, 3 NVA cape jackets and 1 brown pair of pj's. D Co, 2nd platoon, 1st squad, at grid 690440, while moving E-W on patrol. when the unit spotted 1 VC/NVA and engag -ed at approximately 50-75 feet w/small arms fire, at about the same time ...four more VC/NVA were observed at the same location. All 5 evaded to the SW. Personnel were wearing green pants & shirts-one man had aAK-47. He returned light fire and three used cartridges were found. While chasing evading enemy personnel...the element found a small NVA base camp recently used at grid 687437, they found 3 hooches 5'x5'10' long; they were made of bamboo & trees. Late Entry: Ref hooches found, DTG 041315, by Co C, 1st platoon, 2nd squad, same element also found 18 RPG rounds between 1st & 2nd hooches. Found 10 short RPG boosters, 8 long boosters, and 1-30 lb shape charge with funnel attached. Funnel had a small pull device. Also found 1 roll of black wire 300 feet long. The boosters were in 5 gallon Esso oil cans. RPG's were found under rocks...Will back haul.

Co C, 1st platoon.1st squad, at grid 614467, DTG 051150, had one confirmed KIA. The VC/NVA was wearing khakis. He was in a hooch and they captured his AK-47(passed to Bde/Barth 051204). AK-47 contained 1 magazine w/12 rounds. Serial # 12052894. On his person were 3-1.5 US batteries, 1 piece 2"x 4" inch Vietnamese letter, cigarette lighter, flint , razor, a pouch of tobacco. Man was 23 years old,and wearing Ho Chi Minh sandals. In same area, one VC/NVA was observed evading SE on a NS trail.Wearing a green uniform, with weapon. Three hooches 10' x 10' and made of grass and bamboo. The two men were engaged while leaving hooch. The man that evaded ..returned w/small arms fire-5 rounds. Enemy believed to be wounded. B Co, 2nd platoon, 1st squad, at grid 591453, while on patrol up a stream bed and moving South, they came upon action; 1 enemy personnel fired first w/AK-47 and believed to have fired from hooch with bunker in it and resulted in : 1 friendly KIA. Engaged enemy with M-60, M-16,M-203 & hand frags... checked out bunker. Moved on and found 3 hooches covering a area 200 x 200 meters . 1st hooch were 12 x 6 x6. Had to leave area to get KIA to LZ to be extracted and will link up with another element and check area out further tomorrow.

While patrolling, the Recon CP at grid 576422, found 3 hooches, made of thatched straw and poles. The first 2 hooches were 8' x 12' and about 10 meters from the trail. (trails went in between hooches) Hooches were in very thick brush and weren't visible from the trail. The element found them by smelling them. The third hooch looked like a storage hooch and was 8' x8'. Hooches contained; 2 lbs of rice, 4 small potatoes, small pieces of cloth, 1 pair of black shorts, 1 AK-47 round. The hooches were about 3-4 months old, and 200-300 meters from rice paddies. There were two good trails in the vincinty, NW-SE, and W-E. Outside were two small cooking fires and were used within the last 24 hours. hooches contained 2 small cooking pots. Hooches were burned, pots smashed....Trails were well used.

Late Entry: While on patrol D Co, 1st platoon, 1st squad, at grid 675431, DTG 061500, found 3 hooches located next to E-W stream bed. There is also E-W trail in the area. Hooches were 4' x 8' x 4' and made of bamboo & straw. Found inside: 5 pair of plastic sandals, 2 US canteens, 2 cooking pots-10" diameter, 1 tea pot, 2 woven baskets(10"dia). Hooches used 7 days ago. They are about a year old. Hooches were destroyed and trails were to be MAPed tonight.

Late Entry: Recon, 1st squad, while on patrol at grid 557421, DTG 061425, engaged and killed 1 NVA/VC and captured 1 AK-47 and implements for the making of booby traps. Heard sounds of baby crying about 30 meters to the West. Checked pockets of dead of NVA/VA and found: 1 wallet w/2 personal letters and 1 military ID card.Will back haul. After searching the one dead enemy, the 1st squad requested Arty Aerial Observer. The observer came on station at 061530. 52 HE rounds were expended in support of 1st Squad.At 061615, 1 click and 2 gunships came on station to insert 4 more additional personnel and to support the squad on the ground. Late Entry; while patrolling grid 552426, Recon CP DTG 071000-071130, found 6 hooches-sizes 1-5 by 5, 1-5 by, 1-8 by 12, 3-8 by 8. Each was made of bamboo and straw and each had overhead bunker cover. Bunkers approximate size were all 4' x4' x6'. In the vincinty were 2 cow pens. In hooches and cow pens, there was a total of 6 rice knives, 2 shovels, 2 plows, 12 rice sifters, 2 axes, 4 hoes, 2 ox collars, 4 pair of shorts, 3 shorts, 5 pigs, 2 water buffaloes. All hooches in good condition, 6-8 months old, all used within 24 hours, including cow pens.All hooches were 50-100 meters up into the wood line and above the well cultivated rice paddies. The biggest trail in area was E-W, but there was as many as 20 trails in the vicinity and running in all directions. In the vicinity of hooches, besides trails there were 8-1 man fighting positions and 3 bunkers w/overhead cover and firing ports. hooches had good concealment for the air. Killed all animals and destroyed all hooches and equipment that was found.

Late Entry; While on patrol, Co D 1st platoon, 1st squad, at grid 665428, DTG 071257, element was moving down trail S-N, and spotted another trail running in the same direction. They heard a noise about 50 meters to their front. The entire element maneuvered and the point man fired on a crouched enemy. Results; 1 VC/NVA KIA. Spotted one enemy evading to the North...Negative pursuit. Enemy KIA was approx - 30 years old. KIA had on; jungle hat, black pj bottoms, green shirt, plastic sandals. Was carrying AK-44 w/7 rounds, 1 hammock, medical bag with pills and bandages, US pistol belt, NVA canteen, knife, flashlight, cigarette lighter, red wallet, small amount of piasters, and papers. Serial # of weapon : 92297. Weapon in good condition...KIA had negative unit determination. All items will be back hauled.

At 1442 hrs. at grid 554423, 2 Recon snipers engaged 2 VC/NVA at 300 meters in a open area.Result; 1 VC/NVA KIA and 1 VC/NVA WIA. A team went down to the engage -ment area finding the KIA. They found rice, documents, some cloth, a belt w/ammo pouch, ammo pouches, contained 4 AK rounds. Co C 4/1 at grid 599463, had a mech ambush go off resulting in one KIA. The element searched the area finding the KIA had 25-30 feet from where it originally hit. He was wearing green fatigue shirt and grey pants. Ho Chi Minh sandals and no documents or unit designation, He was 27 years old and is 5' 5"and had a 4 1/2 scar on his left wrist. On his person he had: 1 knife, 3 GI heating tablets, 1 packet of GI coffee, 1 packet of Kool-Aid, 1 enemy poncho, 1 camouflage cover, and a pouch containing 4 lbs of rice. He also had a Budweiser can that is believed to be used for cooking. Will be back hauled.

Late Entry; Co A, 3rd platoon, at 1430 hrs. at grid 613414, were on patrol and came upon 3 hooches-15' x 10' . In one hooch there was warm coals, bowl of rice, and 2 weapons: 1 AK 44, 1 M-2 carbine...weapons were old. Hooches were made of bamboo poles with leaves and grass over them. They were in recent use and good condition. They also found 2 tunnels-size3'x 4' x 10 foot deep, in recent use. Trails running E-NE & N- All trails were well used. Spotted 2 enemy personnel evading to the N-NW. One male & one female, both wearing black pj's. The male had a white head band. Went after fleeing enemy personnel and had negative results. will mech all trails tonight. Weapon serial # AK-441087k. The M-2 carbine numbers were unreadable. AK-44 was in firing condition & M-2 rusty and believed it will not fire.

A Co 3/2, at 1140 hrs. at grid 615416, While on patrol they found one hooch 5' x 10' that was 6-8 months old and probably used one month ago. The hooch was located to the side of the E-W trail. It was made of bamboo sticks and the roof was made of leaves. The hooch contained 1 GI ruck sack, 1 NVA ruck sack, 1 satchel charge, 3 bottles with wicks, 100 feet of commo wire, 25 lbs of wheat grain, documents, 2 photo's, Ruck Sack's and documents will be back hauled.

Late Entry; Co C 1/3 at 1515 hrs. and at grid 622458 while on patrol found a weapon cache containing : 2 US M-1 rifles(serial #s 2465311 & 5714846) 3 US 81 mm mortar tubes (sn# 28871-3783-other unreadable) 2 PRC-10 radios US (sn#LSD 5091-2572), 1 hand set, 5 French 7.5mm machine guns w/tripods (sn# MLE 1931-4015 / MLE 1831-7269-others unreadable) 2 magazines, 2 French 7.5 mm automatic rifles w/ 3magazines-(sn#'s unreadable). 1 M-2 carbine US (sn# unreadable), 2 30 cal tripods, 1 French 7.5mm rifle(sn#4152), 1 North Vietnamese 7.62mm submachine gun type 50 (sn#366421), 2-9mm French submachine gun (sn#18621-other unreadable), 1 case 51 cal rounds, 1-20mm round & 21-57mm recoilless rifle rounds. All equipment very rusty and in poor condition. Found in open area in clump of trees....found in torn down hooch with leaves over the cache.

Spotted 4 enemy personnel. Wounded one and followed blood trail approximately 100 meters to the South West and lost trail. When spotted enemy personnel moving West up a stream bed. Negative trails in area Documents negative.....unit designation negative....Two of the running enemy were wearing black and 1 little naked boy. Enemy personnel was 75 meters away when spotted.

Late Entry; Co B 1/1 at grid 561399, at 1230 hrs. while on patrol up ravine and moving North, they spotted 3 hooches. Two VC/NVA ran from hooches, element engaged and had negative results. The KIA moved on up the trail to the North. Element went after them and had negative results. While following them up the trail found 7 more hooches. All hooches were 3' x 6' x 5' and made of bamboo and some wood. In one hooch was 10 lbs of rice and warm coals. In another they found 2 M-16 empty magazines & 16 M-16 loose rounds. Hooches were in a very vegetated area and two trails in the area were running NS and the other one SE-NW. One of the VC/NVA was wearing black, and the other one was wearing black bottoms and red top. Enemy personnel was 20-30 meters away when engaged. Hooches will be destroyed.

Co B 2/2 at time DTG 130920, at grid 557420,at the vicinity of NL-they captured one possible VC. He was about 16 years old and was carrying 2 M-16 magazines w/ ammo, 1 knife, and 1 razor blade. In the vincinty of the 133V and 135V elements, and his movement was heard on a trail running E-W. The 133V element set up a hasty ambush on the trail. The man walked into the ambush and one of the personnel jumped up and pointed his M-16 at him. The man grabbed the muzzle of the weapon, but did not resist. This man approached the ambush from the West, and was wearing a OD shirt and blue shorts. He was carrying negative ID or documents. In his passion was found 1 sand bag containing;2 M-16 magazines with a total of 10 rounds, a ball of clay, some rags, 2 rice knives, one of which he was carrying at time of capture. One sniff bottle that was about 2" high. The man was taken to San Juan Hill by redleg observer LOH at 131030. From SJH he will be taken to BDE after interrogation. Also found in vincinty of CIA along the trail were; 2 pair of black shirts, 2 pairs of OD pants, 3 OD ammo pouches, 1 picture of a communist flag.

Late Entry; Co B 1/2 at 1230 hrs. at grid 552409, while on patrol they came upon 5 hooches sizes 6x8x5, 6x15x5, 8x10x7, 3x5x3, 5x6x6, constructed of bamboo with thatched grass roofs & walls. Three of the hooches were on stilts, and were 4-5 months old and in good condition recently used within last 24 hours; The element moved forward and found 2 more hooches-6'x 10' x 7', and 6'x 10'x 5'. Constructed of bamboo and thatched grass roofs and walls. One of the hooches was on stilts, age , condition, and usage is the same as the above hooches. Contents were: 1 GI canteen, 1 empty M-16 magazine, 4 M-60 ammo cans. In tunnel they found : 2 SKS with serial #'s 5220007 and 1968 bolt...# 1142940 and 1959 bolt. Co B 1/1 at DTG 131900, and at grid 547417, had a mech detonate at 131900. They will check it out in the morning. The mech detonated at 1900 hrs. last night, checked it out at first light.... results; one 28 year old male KIA. He had on OD green short sleeve shirt. They searched the area and found a first aid pack and first aid bandage were both covered with blood near the body. The trail was very well used, and running E-W. When the mech detonated, the element heard children screaming and crying. The KIA had no identification, no papers, only a shirt. found more items that were reported at 140900; a leather wallet, a piece of paper (will be back hauled) also found 1 boy's black shirt, 1 black bottoms, 1 black blouse w/snaps, 2 black shirts, 1 blue shirt, 1 swimming trunks(boys), 1 sandbag of rice, 3 potatoes, 1 piece black cloth 3x8 ft and 1 hammock.

Co B 3/1 at 1230 hrs. and 1330 hrs, and grid 553424 & 552426, while on patrol, they came across a hooch with a little person sitting in it ...with a pack and weapon. Engaged him and enemy took off, and was wounded. The element followed and at grid 552426, and killed him. Patrol was moving on trail NE-SW on a very used trail. Little person was moving along trail....about 15-20 meters past hooch. He had on black shirt & black bottoms, a bush hat, hair 3 inches long. Pack contained 1 cigarette case, 1 rope, 25' long, 1 pair black pants, 1 bag with 7 pounds of rice, and 1 bag with 5 pounds of rice. Pack was a wicker basket with straps. His AK-47 was in good shape, with a serial # 11042819 w/ bolt # 14406. The man was 20 years old and had a GI type pistol belt w/canteen + cover. The Ak-47 had a magazine with 8 rounds. Hooch was 10'x5'x8' ft on 3' stilts. Trail ran right through the hooch...hooch will be destroyed. Negative papers or unit designation.

Believed they were working in paddies early this morning, Could not determine if they had packs or weapons,,,so could not fire Arty. Element to observe at this time. Nearest element is approximately 1000 meters. Two more little people moving E-W and moved into the wood line. Both were wearing packs. Worked up fire mission at 1000 meters and fired 4 HE rounds. All were wearing dark clothes and straw hats.

Late Entry; The 70th ARVN Rangers at grid 514418, DTG 161205, made contact with a VC element larger than a company. Also found a hospital, in area where contact initiated. After pulling back, the above element moved back through the hospital and found 10 5 gallon cans of rice, 12 chickens, 2 pigs, plasma, IV setups and numerous other medical supplies, including numerous narcotics. Requested 2 sets of guns and a narcotics team.

B Co, 3rd platoon, 2nd squad, at 1725 hrs. at grid BS614470. The above element at grid spotted one VC moving NW. He was about 50-75 meters away, when they engaged him. He dropped his rut sack & fled to the SE. He was wearing black tops and bottoms. He had a homemade rutsack containing ; 1 3 lb of rice, a homemade 35 lb mine. It had a iron casting and carrying handle. The mine was blown...Enemy was spotted on a well used trail. Fled off the trail through some very heavy cover, along a stream. Numerous trails in the area. A round from the M-60 hit the casting on the mine.

One male, 17-18 years old and in good health w/recent haircut, and wearing green military fatigues (NVA type) and black under -wear, rope belt, and carrying 1 small raincoat, 1 pouch with a tooth brush, 1 water proof bag with sterile dressing, 1/2 pound of unpolished rice, 1 small plastic bag-empty, 2 GI socks, 1 p38, 1 money clip-empty, 1 small match box w/4 toothpicks, 2 Ho Chi Minh sandals. NVA left woods and picked up a trail(well used) and running North to a Ville in the area. He carried no wallet or identification. NVA had 2 rounds of SKS.

Co B 3/1 at DTG 191400 at the grid 598470, and found, five shallow graves w/ stone markers and paper with Vietnamese writing with the date 21 Nov 70. They were in the bushes along a well used trail and running N-S. Also a stream that runs E-W. The element found this while moving to tentative. Element will check out the graves. Opened two graves...The bodies were stripped and wrapped in Vietnamese raincoat. Bodies were too badly decomposed to determine cause of death.

The point man caught shrapnel the chest, stomach and leg. The squad leader received some shrapnel in the back of the leg. The crater was about 6" deep and 10" in diameter.Unable to determine age of booby trap. Dust-off called at 1415 hrs. & completed at 1430 hrs. Line # 16 Delbert R. Bell....Line # 47 Bruce C. Jaeger.....Line # 16 received only minor injuries and was released upon examination.

B Co 2/3 at grid 717470 at 1800 hrs., observed at 700 meters, 5 VC working at the above location. Element also spotted 1 VC up a tree with what appeared to be a electronic device. The 3rd squad guided the 2nd squad into the area at 1855 hrs. The 2-3 fired into the area the VC evaded in a Southerly direction. Unit found 3 foxholes 2 1/2 x 3 x 4 ft -freshly dug within the past days and there were several bunkers in the area. The unit swept the area and put frags in all the bunkers. Due to the darkness the unit had to suspend its search. Will check out area thoroughly at first light. As of now results are negative. Man in tree disappeared and negative knowledge of what device was..or where it is.

Co B 2/1 at 0930 hrs. at the grid 612472. Element made investigation of the area where VC were seen yesterday that yielded the following; 4-55 gallon drums-3 empty & 1 full. The full one had writing on top...Shell Oil Company RIMULA OIL 30 wt. Found a piece of black 1" tubing with a hard black casing that was 1" thick and 4' long. A rusty AK-47 with unreadable markings and the rifle can be returned to a serviceable condition. The drums appeared to be there for 3-4 months. These items were found on a small island, that was higher than the surrounding terrain. The method of entrance to the island-appeared to be the intermittent stream bed. Need to know how to dispose of oil... Rifle & tube will be back hauled.

Co D 1/2 at DTG 211500 and at grid 605412. Element found a hooch, that was 8'x 10'. Two trails in the area ran N-S & NE-SW. The hooch had been there 6 months and was in good condition. The lastest use was 2 days ago. there was a booby trap on the trail leading to the hooch. It was a chicom grenade in a glass jar and activated by a trip wire. Nothing of value was found in the hooch, The element will mech the area tonight and destroy it in the morning. Destroyed booby trap with hand grenade.

The VC returned approximately 15 rounds of AK fire and evaded to the West and the other toward the 2nd squad element. This element fired on him and then he evaded and went North. One VC had a AK-47, and they were wearing black pj's. In the area where they left shot at thee VC and the 3rd squad found 3 hooches, 6'x 14' x6'/ 6'x 8'x 5' / 6'x 8'x 5' There was running water in one, and one had a earth stove with a pot of boiling water on it. Hooches contained NVA equipment & uniforms and documents and letters......All will be back hauled to San Juan Hill and other things will be destroyed......Additional item information is in page log.

Spot Report; Received from C Co, 1stplatoon, 1st squad, DTG 2800630 at grid 745361. The above element had a mech set on trail. It was detonated at 0630 hrs. Investigation showed there was one (1) KIA and one (1) blood trail. KIA approximately 24 years old. Male w/ABN haircut, Ho Chi Minh sandals, T shirt, and brownish black pants, He was coming out of the flats going West in the draw. Blood trail went to East. In his pack they found 4 lb of tobacco, 1 can Foremost milk, 20 lb polished rice, 2 ducks, writing paper, 9mm pistol (serial # 66451952) w/2 clips of ammo, a GI pistol belt, 1 lb 13 oz of C-ration Boned Turkey. Items of military interest will be evacuated to SJH.

There was a small trail nearby, running SW to NE and had been used the previous day. The cache had been placed there approximately one to two weeks ago. Found 200 AK rounds, 10 RPG boosters in a GI ammo can,also two 25 lb shaped charges and two sand bags filled with rocks. Everything will be destroyed.

They are looking for a LZ , so they can back haul the rice & uniforms.

Co D 1/3 at 1245 hrs. at grid 582429. Element saw 2 VC running from E-W. They dropped packs and went to investigate. They slipped up on the two VC and killed them...The VC were wearing shorts & T shirts. They were carrying 2 AK-47's and one chicom.The VC were approximately 20 years old, and were wearing Ho Chi Minh sandals. The VC had 2 AK-47's w /4 full magazines, plus 20 extra rounds and 2 pistol belts, The serial numbers on the weapons are #'s11081257 &12086182. Equipment will be back hauled to San Juan Hill. Co D 3/2 at 1125 hrs. at grid 582429, had a mech go off. The VC was approximately 25 years old, and in good condition. He was moving SW on a trail running NE-SW. The VC was wearing Ho Chi Minh sandals, green uniform, a pistol belt, and had a NVA Helmet. He was carrying an AK-47 with serial # 54971, w/a full 30 round clip. In the pack he had; cooking utensils, 20 lbs of corn and a 1 gal can of diesel fuel.The can had the following writing on it "Donated By US"...Equipment and weapons will be back hauled to San Juan Hill.

Co A 4/1 at 1445 hrs. at the grid 599463, had one VC/NVA KIA in a mech ambush. He was approximately 20 years old, clean shaven and a recent haircut. He was moving on a N-S trail and traveling South. He was wearing what appeared to be a green NVA uniform with Ho Chi Minh sandals. He was wearing a NVA pistol belt, a NVA bayonet, a GI canteen and cover, a GI ammo pouch, and a NVA poncho. The uniform, NVA equipment, and documents will be back hauled to San Juan Hill.

At 1423 hrs. we called a dust off for Line # 150 Gary A. Bell. He shot himself in the foot while checking out hooch. He was entering, the hooch with his weapon on semi_automatic, when he stepped thru the door, his arm hit the edge causing the weapon to discharge...Dust-off started 1423 hrs & completed at 1515 hrs.
