To Bde/Pane: From 2/Charlie Company location 208102, Element had a MAP detonate last night apparently during scheduled fires. Resulting in; 1 VC/NVA KIA, age 23....He was moving SE on NW-SE trail and was wearing a white T shirt and green pants. There was nothing else on body. It appeared to be stripped. Element thinks there were more VC in party.

To Bde/Pane: From 2/3/Alpha Company DTG 011405 at location 162998..Element has 1 VC KIA and 2 Hoi Chanhs one 25 year old male and 1 .....17year old female. Will need slick this afternoon.

To Bde/Simon: REF# 41 ... KIA was 25 year  old male. Negative ruck or weapon, carrying 1 rice knife and 1 set of clothing. VC were moving North on a  North-South trail. VC were carrying one bag of food, 2 ponchos and miscellaneous documents. Negative ID....They said  they were working fields in the area and have hooches nearby.

From Bde/Pane: Weather Report.....Isolated thunderstorms 1500-2200: Winds 15-35 knots.

 To Bde/Small: 2/2/Delta Company 021855 at 195015.. Element was moving detainees to LZ Professional and came across 3-4 VN.  Engaged with SAF resulting in 1 VN WIA, female 15 years old. Head and stomach injuries. Urgent Dust off requested.

To Bde/Pane Col Smith & MG Baldwin arrived at LZ Professional.

To Bde/Pane: 1/2/Bravo Company DTG 1555 at location 260061.. at area where engaged VC earlier and spotted another VC wearing blue shirt and attempting to evade South. Engaged with SAF at 30 meters. VC was wounded and then surrendered. We are calling Dust off at this time

To Bde/Morozoff : DTG 041 735 at location 179062. Team from Tien Phouc acting on information from Chieu Hoi found cache at above location.1 AK-47 in poor condition but operating, 1 magazine w/12 rounds. Also CIA 1 50-60 year old male wearing green uniform. POW was sleeping in hooch they came upon him. Weapon and POW are at Professional and will be taken to Tien Phouc in the morning.

June 5 1005

To Bde/Simon: From Recon at loction 165088, DTG 050945, After gunships engaged, VC dropped rock and crawled under rock. Element moved to his location, VC tried to evade: elements engaged w/ SAF, Results: 1 VC WIA, CIA, VC has been brought to Professional for medical treatment and interrogation. Element moved 150 meters and found hooch and 2 tunnels. A second VC was CIA. VC will be evacuated to LZ Professional.

June 5 1420

To Bde/Pane: From 1/Alpha Company DTG 051330 at location 139999. Element discovered North-South trail with tracks a few hours old. Following trail they came on a booby trap made of a LAW with a trip wire trigger. 25 meters further down the trail they found some explosives with a trip wire trigger. The explosives were buried. Both were blown in place

...The second crater produced a crater 6" deep and 12" in diameter. 25 meters down the trail they found 4 hooches 15' x 7' x 10'. All had bunkers and one had a 12' tunnel under it. Nothing was found in the area.... hooches were destroy -ed...Both bobby traps appeared to be set today.

June 6 1127

To Bde/Simon: From CP/Charlie Company DTG 061100 at location 174997. CP was moving NorthEast and spotted 2 VC wearing black pj's with negative packs or weapons. They engaged w/SAF at 75 meters, direction East-NorthEast, VC were on East-West trail and evaded to the South along a small stream. Element checked area with negative results.

To Bde/Pane: From CP/Bravo Company DTG 0915 hrs at location 251062, LP from CP found two bobby traps.
One at 251062 and one at 252062. Both were dug in the ground, had trip wire triggers and were about a year old. Any camouflage had been burnt away.

From Maj Mitts: MP's have arrested an individual who was AWOL for 103 days. Need permission to put him in pretrial confinement. LTC Shannon approves pretrial confinement..

To Bde/Pane: From CP/Charlie Company DTG 091000 at location 174977. Element had a mech detonate. Resulting in 1 VC KIA, female, 35 years old: VC was traveling East on a East-West trail wearing khaki shirt, bra,and black Pj bottoms, HCM sandals, KIA was carrying 2 PJ bottoms, 3 blouses, 4 bras, 1 hammock, 5 lbs of rice, various cooking utensils and small amount of food. 2 pieces of notebook paper with writ -ing on it. Negative weapons or ID. All will be back hauled to LZ Professional.

June 9 1430


To Bde/Lark : From 2/1 Bravo Company DTG 091340 at location 245056. While on patrol element spotted and engag -ed 2 VC at approximately 75 meters with negative results, VC evaded to SouthEast. One was wearing white shirt, the other black. Both had black Pj bottoms . In vicinity element found 1 hooch under construction. It had 3 poles with VC poncho over them. Area had recent use. To Bde/Pane : Charlie Company at grid 209997. Man shot himself in foot. Weapon discharged accidentally after checking out noise, Personnel tripped causing weapon to discharge. He was scheduled for CONFUS leave beginning today.

June 10 1730

To Bde/Simon : At 1702 hrs. at 271109 as bird was going in for pick up. he landed too hard and broke skid. 1/Bravo Company is securing bird. They received SAF 50-100 meters South of PZ and returned fire w/gunship. Element sweeping area now. Required maintenance TM and bird to extract slick. update on initial bird was 3-4 feet off the ground when they received SAF.

June 11 0915

To Bde/Hay : From Recon DTG 110905, at location 205121. While on Eagle flight sweeping area East of LZ CIA 3 female POW's...who will be extracted to Professional for interroga -tion. Bird received SAF from same area. Upon insertion of Recon returned fire and CIA detainees. Required bird to deliver detainees to Chu Lai. Recon also found 20 SKS rounds, 1 wallet, 200 lbs of corn, 600 lbs of grain and 1 10' x 10' hooch. Will destroy but 2 lbs of corn and grain and wallet. Permission to destroy grain given by Bde/JAP. Detainees were 60 & 30 years of age.

From C/Co Fogle: Bey, Benjamin has refused to go to the field. Require someone at this location to give him direct order....Cpt Brambila told Bey to be on the pad at 1430 hrs.


June 11 1035

To Bde/Pane : From 1/1/Bravo Company DTG 1020 at locat -ion 211071 hit booby trap.

Boiling, Michael, was injured with shrapnel to leg.

Booby trap appeared to be early warning device. Device was smoke grenade hocked to trip wire and fuse inserted into grenade. Element is sweeping area. Individual will be back hauled on R/S bird....rear informed to have medics standing by. WIA extracted at 1100 hrs.. There were no trails in the area, booby trap appeared to be 1 week old. Element was moving NE at the time of incident.

June 11 1830


To Bde/Pane : From 1/2/Bravo Company DTG 111730 at location 197078. Pointman hit booby trap,. Booby trap was grenade and trip wire 2" off ground. Element was moving East on berm in heavy brush at time of incident.

Jackson, Johnny. Dust off and died on arrival.

will be extracted to LZ Professional for observation of shrapnel wound received yesterday.

June 12 1940

To Bde/Morozoff and Lark: DTG 121820 at loc 158006, 2/2/Charlie Company ...While on patrol engaged and killed 1 VC/NVA w/SAF. Individual was engaged at 50 meters, VC was male, age 20, wearing khakis, Ho Chi Minh sandals, 1 M-14 anti-personnel mine, 3 VN flashlight batteries, 2 notebooks with writing, 1 box of US blasting caps. Items will be back hauled to LZ Professional. Area will be checked out to locate and detonate future booby traps and element will sweep area tomorrow.

To Bde/Simon : DTG 131420 vicincity 246119.. 2/Delta Company while on patrol this element spotted and engaged 2 VC. Results: 1 female detainee, age 4. Other VC evaded NorthWest, Are sweeping ...child will be extracted by LOH. Child was not spotted initially.

To Bde/Simon : DTG 131600 vic 296119..1/2/Delta Company while on sweep of area of earlier contact (Ref # 51) found 4 hooches 10' x 20' w/bunker. bunkers were 8' x 8' x 10'. small amount of clothing, pots, pans, which have been back hauled To LZ Professional. Estimate occupancy in last 2 hours by 10-15 personnel. 10 trails were running in all directions and well used. hooches will be destroyed and element will cont -inue to work area.

To Bde/Morozoff : DTG 132135 loc 246116, 2/2/Delta Company received unknown amount of SAF from 2 AK-47's .Direction 360 degrees. Proximity 300 meters..Element also received 4 rounds of mortar fires. Fire also came from the North..... Rounds impacted 100 meters South of NDP. Element received negative casualties...Arty was processed and 39 rounds were expended.

From Bde/Weather forecast: Storm warning 0900-2100 hrs: ceiling 1000', 2000' with 2 miles.....winds-15-30 knots. R/S bird off station..

To Bde/Pane : At 0800 hrs at LZ Professional, Sgt Johnson, Raymond of A Co was injured in the head and legs when rain washed out hooch and it collapsed. Man is at aid station with priority dust off required. Birds are on weather hold. Bunkers are being checked every hour.

From Bde/Simon : DTG 1520 at loc 243112...2/2/Delta Company received 4 rounds M-79 into their position, Fire came from 1500 mils ( 1 mil=a thousandth of an inch) 200-300 meters, Arty was processed into area. Gunships that supported dust off are checking area. 3/1 is sweeping North to intercept if possible. Dust off at 1610 hrs. with multiple frag wounds were;

To Bde/Simon : Hook move between Bravo and Charlie Company's at Chu Lai, Bravo Company at LZ Professional.

June 17 1220

To Bde/Bilstrom ; at 1145 hrs. at 132285. Element has 8 detainees, 2 females age 50, 1 boy-8, 1 girl-7, 1 boy-6 and 2 babies. While searching area found 3 hooches 20' x 10' with 5' x 5' bunkers. All hooches were connected with tunnels 2' x 3'. Inside one hooch found dried potatoes, pans and farming tools. Around hooch were gardens with potatoes and fruit trees. The detainees stated there were men in the area who evaded when the element landed. The women refused to talk.

June 17 1300

To bde: Ref # 33, while securing PZ for extraction of 8 detainees, element spotted 4 VC coming into opening 300 meters away, all carrying weapons and packs. 1 with green uniform, others with black pj's. Element engaged w/SAF and VC evaded to the North. Estimate 2 VC wounded,VC moving North on North-South trail, CIA 1 M-16 (sn # 1616363) There were no blood trails.

June 17 1335

To Bde/Simon : at grid 087280, 2/Delta Company had a mech detonate resulting in 1 VC KIA Male-age 20, negative weapon, carrying 5 lbs of rice, 1 poncho, 1 hammock, 1 bush hat, negative document or ID wearing blue shorts and shirt, moving NorthEast on NorthEast-NorthWest trail. Only trail in area and well used....all equipment destroyed.

To Bde/Simon: at grid 114264. 1/1/Alpha Company while moving on the trail and believed to be chicom grenade booby trap with pressure release type fuse. Trap recently placed on North-South trail in area where element was channeled due to surrounding terrain. results were 1 US WIA....

To Bde/Bilstrom at grid 135264, 2/Alpha Company while on patrol found 1- 12' x 8' hooch with smoke coming out. Sur -rounded and resulted in 1 male detainee, his age was 30, and individual wearing OD shirt and pants with negative ID, weapon or documents. VC was cooling food plate for three persons. Area searched finding 2 - 6' x 8' bunkers with a tunnel linking them. 2 trails: North-South and East-West, both well used. Extracted detainee to An Dau for interrogat -ion. Later man will be sent to the IPW pad in Chu Lai.

June 19 1040

To Bde/Bilstrom; At 0930 hrs. at grid 093273 ....1/1/Delta Company. While waiting on RS;

Lt Dwight Thomas Blackwater weapon discharged.

bent down to pick up M-203 and the weapon discharged and lodged in his throat unexploded, individual was evacuated by R/S bird to 91st Evacuation Hospital in Chu Lai. Evac at 0940 hrs. and later died.

as a result of booby trap: received shrapnel to legs and arms and one has a possible concussion.

From Bde/Maj White wants a investigating officer appointed for death of 1 Lt Blackwater this morning.

To Bde/Pane: at 1115 hrs. at grid 126292, 1/1/ Alpha Company while moving through elephant grass came across overgrown trail: moved down trail in NorthSouth direction. About 15 meters down trail the 6th man detonated a press -ure chicom bobby trap resulting in 2 US WIA. There was a North-South trail in the area.

June 20 1455

To Bde/: 1Lt Town of Alpha Company dusted off with high fever and was delirious with a temp-104.5/105 degrees. Dust off completed at 1455 hrs. at grid 107268. He was taken to 91st Evacuation Hospital.

To Bde/Bilstrom: At grid 122274 at 1340 2/3/Delta Company while on patrol found 12 bunkers in good condition with heavy logs for overhead cover. Showed negative signs of recent use 2 trails in area, One North-South and one East-West. Age of bunker 1 year...last use 2months...all were destroyed,

To Bde/Simon: at grid 104271 2/3/Delta Company while on patrol found 3 hooch, 1 blown away from Arty, 2 in good condition....last used within 24 hours. One tunnel under each hooch 12' x 18' one with running water piped in with cane pole, 2 latrines used recently, 1 trail North-South, well used. Will mech tonight...Did not destroy.

To Bde/White; Delta Company CP had a mech detonate at 0400 hrs. at grid 084264. No Aty processed..Will check at 1st light.

To Bde/Pane: AC team on station to work 33, at grid 172992 cleared to fire. Gunship engaged and killed 1 VC/NVA ...individual had black PJ and negative weapon.

To Bde/Pane: DTG 211210 at grid 135274.........2/Alpha Company saw 1 VC and yelled Chieu Hoi, VC evaded , he was engaged with SAF resulting in 1 VC WIA. he was 40 years old and negative weapon.Was wounded in small of back. Dust off complete 1240 hrs...VC died on bird.

To Bde/Lark: DTG 211610 at grid 097278 1/Delta Company had line # 184 dusted off for heat stroke, and was dusted off by LOH to 91st Evacuation Hospital.

To Bde/White: DTG 220700 at grid location 116294...Alpha Company 3rd platoon, 1 on 202100 ...2 MAP's detonated and investigated 220700. Results were 2 VC KIA, CIA was 4 chicoms, map case with documents and pamphlets. Docu -ments contained numerous names and numbers, 1 Russian flag, also in map case was small maps with arrow pointing possible cave or cache site. Documents will be back hauled to Chu Lai.

To Bde/Pane: DTg 220800 at grid location 098267...2/3/Delta Company while sweeping area found 2 hooches 16' x 12'. In hooches were found ; 10 wooden chopsticks and several straw baskets, 1 NVA helmet, assorted pots and pans, cloth -ing. Estimate occupancy in last 24 hours.

June 22 1450

To Bde/Pane: DTG 221435 at grid location 206117. 2/Bravo Company spotted and engaged 1 VC in green uniform approx 100 meters away, evaded to the West w/negative weapons. Unit sweeping area at this time.

To Bde/Lark: DTG 221545 at grid location 204118... 1/2/Bravo Company found 1 hooch 10' x 20' and used within 24 hours 1 rucksack, 1 transistor radio, some documents, one note with list of 7 men, one possible leader, 1 canteen, 2 lbs of rice, 2 buckets of corn, pay voucher, 5 pigs, 1 cat. Will mech area which was 6 months old. Trail in area is running East-West with recent use. Hooch will accommodate 5 people Scout thinks documents are important and they will be back hauled on dust off bird.

To Bde/ Lark: Lt Petro of 2/Bravo Company fell and hit head on rock: needs stitches. Priority-Dustoff completed at 1705 hrs at grid 206117.

From Bde/Basmer: DTG 230820 at grid 392233...CH-47 went down, alerted to have 1st platoon, standing by. 2nd platoon of Charlie Company alerted.

June 23 0925

To Bde/Hatfield: lift ships 4-2-1, arrived to CA 2nd platoon of Charlie Company into the vicinity of downed hook. PZ at 0935 hrs. LZ at 0935 hrs. Element is working with the D 11th Cav.

To Bde/Bilstrom: DTG 231320 located at grid 101264 Delta Company 3rd platoon 2nd squad engaged 1 VC/NVA WIA. Was dusted off 1400 hrs ....one wallet and and weapons card back hauled. individual was 20 years old traveling on East-West trail that was well used. Engaged at 100 meters, nega -tive pack or weapon wearing black shirt, blue pants, negative ID.

Thurber, Stephen J. SP/4 ..... dusted off at An Dau from Alpha Company, individual was looked at by the Bn Sur -geon who had a broken leg.

To Bde/Hey; DTG 241140 at grid 134224 Recon was moving along trail, one man detonated a 60 mm mortar booby trap when he stepped off trail. Results 1 US WIA who was evacuated by lift bird to 91st Evacuation Hospital.

To Bde/Summary of spots on Eagle Fight DTG 240900 at grid 099235. Recon was inserted into suspected enemy location. While sweeping area engaged 2 VC at 50 meters. Results 1 VC WIA and 1 VC CIA. WIA was dusted off at 0940 hrs to 91st Evacuation Hospital. POW was taken to An Dau, from there to IPW. At 0955 Recon at grid 099235 Recon engaged 1 VC resulting in 1 VC KIA, 1 rucksack and 1 AK-47 CIA.

June 24 1430

To Bde/DTG1420 at grid 211081, Bravo Company 3rd platoon...Bulter, Douglas J. SGT. Was dusted off for several reactions to wasp sting....Arms and back swollen,vomiting, Taken to 91st Evacuation Hospital.

June 24 1700

To Bde/Col Smith from LTC Shannon:1/2 Alpha Company engaged 2/2 Alpha Company resulting in 5 US WIA at 137289...There was a map reading error resulting in friendly fire fight.

1/2/A Co while element was setting out MA heard voices. Went back, got rest of squad...The first squad then employed on line assault and Recon the area by fire. The element engaged was the 2nd platoon /2nd squad...they took 5 casualities...Dust off complete at 1730 hrs....Element were 25-50 meters apart at the time of the incident. Incident attributed to 800 meter error in map reading... 1st squad led by plt Sgt, 2nd led by plt leader. 1st squad was moving North when engaged 2nd squad..

While conducting CA, AMC observed 1 hooch (15' x 15') at grid 098237, 1 male observed w/ pack, all armed w/AK-47. Too high to see what VC/NVA were wearing and carrying. 3/Alpha Company picked up at grid 101246 and inserted into sweep area. LZ was hot, fire was directed at lift ships w/negative results.

June 25 1530

To Rear/WEP: At 1745 hrs at grid 171015, Tracey, Wilbur J. Sp/4 was dusted off with temperature of 104.4 degrees to (91st Evacuation Hospital....was 2nd platoon Alpha Co.

To Bde/Lark: EM ( SNO623) FM Charlie Company /3 ...Had M-16 discharge, removing left middle finger. Weapon was on safe prior to leaving night location. EM was cutting trail and when the element stopped to take a break the EM placed the weapon on his lap. It discharged as he stood up. EM's middle finger was struck, & evacuated to 91st Evacuation Hospital at Chu Lai by LOH at 1035 hours. Rear directed to get a statement from EM. EM leader will also submit a statement in determination of cause of incident.

June 27 1110

To Bde/Simon: To Rear/WEP: DTG 271020 at grid 256126, 2nd platoon 2nd squad Charlie Company while on patrol along old North-South trail when element hit bobby trap resulting in 2 US WIA. The explosion made a hole 2" deep and 4" wide and was pressure release detonated type. the trail showed signs of recent use. Requested dust off and as dust off was coming in it set off another bobby trap in the area. Resulting in 1 US WIA with shrapnel in the hand and arm. The first two casualities were in feet and leg. Dusted off were:

were dust off with shrapnel wounds to hands and arms (Wiggins) frag wounds to back (Webster). Element hit booby trap at 0800 hrs, Taken to the 91st Evacuation Hospital at Chu Lai.

To Bde/Morozoff: DTG 280800 at grid 256123 2/2/Charlie Company while moving to RS LZ element hit booby trap resulting in 2 US WIA (Ref # 17). They had returned from picking up their toy and was using same avenue to got RS LZ. Same route has been covered 4 times. Booby trap at edge of tea garden. No trails in immediate area.

of 3/Delta Company at 121720 at 288068 was hit by enemy SAF in head legs....Taken to 91st Evacuation Hospital.

To Bde/Bilstrom: DTG 291715 at grid location 288068 2/3/ Delta Company had LP out and security watching rucksacks when 1 VC/NVA approached on a old trail from the South East, fired 20 rounds M-16 from 15-20 meters away resulting in 1 US WIA who was guarding packs. Man wounded. # 49 returned fire and enemy evaded back to SE along old trail. No ID Of VC.

June 30 0930

To Bde/Pane: DTG 300900 at grid 203120 Bravo Company CP while getting resupplied received 2-3 M-79 rounds. Negative casualties or damaged. Proximity and direction 50-75 meters to the North. Arty processed while element sweeps area. Bird tail number 304.

To Rear/Priority Dust off complete for Larry Tinsley E-4 for FUO temperature of 105 degrees at grid 324085..
