To Bde/Simon: DTG 01800 in vicinity of 199121. Bravo Company CP had mech detonate resulting in 2 VC/NVA KIA.

To Bde/Pane: (ref # 24) ages 1-18years...1-17years, wearing green clothes, CIA-1 AK-47 (sn# 91004), 1 magazine w/10 rounds,1 GI pistol belt, 1st aid pouch w/dressing, 1 wallet w/documents, 1 hammock. VC were traveling on North-South trail when map detonated , will back haul everything.

To Bde/Simon: DTG 011355 in the vicinity of grid 323061. 2/Delta Company found 1 M-14 antitank mine w/fuse fully armed on top of ground with negative camouflage. NC 32-33 dated 3/56. Manufactured By VP or YP. Element placed safety, removed fuse and will blow up in place.

To Bde/Hull: DTG 011750, in the vicinity of 200117, Bravo Company 1st squad 2nd platoon, had a Mech detonate resulting; 3 VC/NVA KIA. Also had a blood trail VC/NVA were males approx 25, 30, and 13 years of age. CIA'd were pistol belt, hammock, band aids, cooking pot. Negative ID or weapons. They were moving SouthEast on a NorthWest-SouthEast trail.

To Bde/Hull: DTG 020740 in the vicinity of 201118. 2nd platoon 2nd squad of Bravo Company had  a man walk into a MA (friendly). Individual was securing another man and picking mech up. Individual walked into it and was killed...

Element spotted hooch and received SAF from hooch and other directions. Contact was broken and dust-off called at 1510 hrs and it was comp -leted at 1547 hrs. Gunships remained after dust-off and worked the area. EM was WIA ...Line # 9

To Bde/Pane: by Kennedy 1620 hrs 2/Delta Company at 1435 hrs at grid location 267097 while securing LZ 1 VC/ NVA approached element who was engaged w/SAF at 10 meters, 1 VC/NVA KIA, CIA-1 AK-50, misc documents and personnel effects wearing green fatigues.

To Bde/Bilstrom: Alpha Company 3rd platoon at grid locat -ion 166994 captured 1 male, age 25, also 2 females ages 45, 4 children, 2 males, 2 females, 25 lbs rice, 20 lbs parsley. Trails North-South-East-West, negative ID on detainees. One hooch 10' x 15' with bunker 10' x 6' underneath. Male wearing green slacks, black shirt, rucksack. Individual nurs -ing a finger. Request bird to pick up detainees.

8 Jul 1506

To Bde/Pane: Alpha Company 1st squad 2nd platoon, at 1415 hrs at 14002 found a built up area with trails in all directions. Last used-yesterday. At the same location. The element has 6 detainees with bunkers. The detainees were 5 women and a boy. Negative ID of the hooches...they were 10' x 20' with bunkers(4' x 5' underneath). Two major trails in the area running North-South with signs of heavy use.

9 Jul 0935

To Bde/Pane: 2/Delta Company at 0830 hrs at 268096 had a mech detonate. Results were 4 VC/NVA KIA. 3 males 30-25-12 ..1 female on a letter age 19. CIA 4 rucksacks, 1 wallet with documents. The KCS interpreted 1 typewritten page saying the female had been released from a VC hospital 7 July. All were wearing civilian clothing. Documents will be back hauled. VC traveling West on East-West trail.

To Bde/Pane by Blevins: 4/Alpha at grid location 147991 at 140900...checked out MAP which detonated last night and found a heavy blood trail. Followed trail and spotted 1 VC/ NVA who evaded...He was engaged with negative results.

To Bde/Pane: at 141145 at grid 185038, 1/1/Bravo Company found 200 engineers stakes and several bags of enemy coke cans. 5....M-16 cans, 5...M-60 cans, all cans were full of diesel fuel, 1 black pj, 5 D cell batteries, 2 GI shirts....one major trail running East-West.

Late entry: To Bde/Pane at 159000. 3/Alpha Company found 1 VC/NVA under trees. Was killed by small arms fire. He appeared to be dead for about 3 days. Had negative weapon or ID or pack. Bde credited KIA to 3/Alpha.

Late entry: To Bde/Pane by Kennedy. Charlie Company 1/2 at 141520 found and engaged 1 VC/NVA with ruck at 244057. They engaged with small arms fire. Results: 1 VC/NVA KIA, Male-25 years of age, wearing green shirt & pants, GI socks, and HCM sandals. Was carrying a satchel containing 5 tablets with witting in it. Also had a folder with paper back books in it. He was carrying large home made rucksack containing 1 green shirt, 1 pair of brown shorts, 1 w/p bag, 1 NVA canteen, 2 bars of soap, 1 first aid bag....50 lbs of rice and potatoes. Will back haul satchel and contents and destroy the remainder. Engaged at approx 45 meters, trail ran East-West.

To Bde/Pane: by Kennedy: Late Entry; Alpha Company 3rd platoon 1st squad at 141450 at 162999. while on patrol the element spotted 1 VC moving on trail East-West. Element engaged resulting in 1 KIA. Found blood trail while following blood and spotted 2 more VC...Engaged resulting in 2 KIA. Element while sweeping area found 4 hooches and 1 bunker ....with blood trail running to bunker. Element through hand frag in bunker after yelling Chuoi Hoi Results: 4 VC KIA. Together 2 females ages 22 & 27. 5 males ages 25-30-35-20-15. No weapons found. One rucksack new clothing..The clothing was in bags marked Tam Ky and Quang Tien. KIA's wearing civilian Dink Clothing. Hooches size 8' x 15'....bunker 8' x 10' ....4 months old.

Late Entry: To Bde/Pane by Kennedy....Alpha Company 3rd platoon found 1 grave at grid 161999...Grave had 1 VC age 40, male. Was killed by small arms fire...Dead roughly 6 days, From Bde credit KIA to Alpha/3.

To Bde/Salles by Kennedy: At approx 1800 guns were making runs firing at about 500 feet, speed 60 knots. Engaged 2 VC in open and received fire in return. Engaged results: Confirmation 1 VC/NVA KIA. Negative knowledge of hits or not on ship. Received on ships, 2 burst of AK fire.

Recon Eagle flight 161400-1700 hrs at 1611530 at 102238, Gunships engaged 3 VC with packs, and negative weapons. They evaded to the West. Recon inserted at initial spotting area. Found 3 rucks & 6 blood trails. Swept further with scout dog finding 5 more rucks. Followed blood trails for approx 500 meters to the NW until they disappeared.Were picked up at 1650. Total CIA 11 rucks with assorted documents...back hauled to IPW at first opportunity. Are was honeycombed with tunnels (6' in diameter) Recon found 25 and thinks there are more.Tunnels contained clothes and cooking utensils.There are also 6 hooches (20' x 10') w/clothing and cooking utensils...These were burned.

Late Entry: To Bde/Pane by Kennedy: Alpha Company 2nd platoon at 194125, early this morning on VR, two poles with what looked like blue shirts were spotted. They were about 100 meters apart. Alpha Company 2nd platoon was inserted near this area in a CA. Shirts were blankets and were very large and directly over bunkers. Element moved in and started checking and sweeping area. They received fire from 200 meters to the NE. Estimate enemy force 15-20 VC/NVA......1 US KIA....4 US WIA...also Sp/4 Cordes, Mack .


At 1040 hrs Alpha Company 4-3 on July 19, 1971 Alpha Company 4-3 Infantry 2nd Platoon at BT194125, early this morning on Visual Recon, spotted two poles with what looked like blue shirts was spotted. They were about 100 meters apart. Alpha Company 2nd Platoon was inserted near this area in a Combat Assault and the shirts were blankets very large and directly over bunkers. Element moved in and started checking and swept area.They received fire from 200 meters to northeast. Estimate enemy force to be about 15-20 VC/NVA and resulted in 1 US KIA and 4 WHA. Personnel involved KIA SP4 Maxie, Norman, WHA SP4 Fields, Carlton, SP4 McHugh, Michael, SP4 Millard, Robert, SP4 Cordes,Mack.Late Report in the area there were large rock with fighting position 4’ X 4’ between rocks there are between 10-12 (of these positions in the area).

Late Entry: From Recon at grid 165077 element found 2 bunkers with dimensions; 5' x 5' w/2 feet of overhead cover, built of logs, rocks, concrete, and reinforced w/steel. 1 trail running North-South, and last used 3-4 days ago. Will blow in place.

21 Jul 1015

To Bde/Lark by Blevins: Recon at grid 170073. While moving East on a East-West trail found 1 pair of binoculars (M-13 A-1). Were laying beside trail and appeared to have dropped by individual moving along the trail 2 weeks to a month ago. SN # was scratched off.

To Bde/Pane by Blevins: Alpha Company 3rd platoon received 9-12 rounds of unidentified Arty. Impact within 300 meters and West of element. Location of element 214128. Element had dirt and limbs falling on them. Could hear the shrapnel passing.

To Bde/Pane by Whaley: Delta Company 2/2 at 0700 hrs at grid 162996, while moving to PZ for extraction, they passed a hooch which they had earlier this mission. They were re-checking area due to Artillery mission last night. Spotted and engaged one VC/NVA 50 meters at 360 degrees. Results: 1 VC/NVA KIA wearing green shorts and shirt. He had negative pack or weapon. KIA was carrying approx 300-400 piasters. After engaging VC element formed up another sweep of the area. One individual accidentally discharged his weapon-seriously wounding

PFC Coult......EM died of head wounds.

23 Jul 1120

To Bde/Lark by Lizzo: Recon at 1110hrs at 231055. The AMC bird spotted 6 VC with at least 2 AK's. Recon was inserted into location and proceeded to sweep area. They engaged VC/NVA which was spotted earlier. Results: 5 KIA's all males and 1 POW (female). She was shot in the leg. They also have 1 Chieu Hoi.

To Col Shannon from Cpt Hummel: There will be a formal investigation of man killed yesterday. Would like to know what action Col Shannon wants to take upon the man arrested for possession of heroin. Man shot-Coult, Gerry PFC.

At 231230 at 213116 3/A Co received 3 rounds of small arms fire. Suspect enemy location 221119, direction 500-800 meters. Arty being processed at this time (To Bde/Hey by Lizzo). Shot at 1237 hrs element was crossing a 200 meter open area....2 men in open at a time. The entire element had crossed the area when they received 3 rounds of sniper fire. 1 round close over head. Could not tell where the others went. Arty complete 1315 hrs.

To Bde/Salles by Lizzo: 2/Alpha Company at 0930 hrs at grid 191113 found a old hooch beside a NorthSouth trail that was used several months ago. Found 32 AK rounds in pouch made of air mattress, pouch was full of water, 1 ammo can containing documents dated 1970. Will keep ammo cans until extraction tomorrow. Will continue to search area.

From Bravo Company to Whaley: 1/Bravo Company at 233089 at 1100 hrs found along stream: 1 gal dried flour, 25 lbs of potatoes, 1 pair of pj's, 1 VC poncho, 3 sacks almonds, 8 fish baskets. 1 flashlight, 1 cooking stand, 1 empty M-60 ammo can, 1 rice knife. There were 4 trails in area all running South of stream. Scout believes there were 4 VC in the area yesterday.

To Bde/Simon by Kennedy: 1/Bravo Company at 1305 hrs at 230088 found 1 ruck in tree. Contained an award certificate w/list of names on it, 2 books, possibly propaganda, various clothes , hammock, 1 pistol belt, 1 GI ammo pouch. Negative trails...Equipment & documents will be back hauled to LZ Professional.

To Rear by Nelson: Bn 15 for LTC's sig; Line #10, at 251900 -disobeyed lawful order of Lt Packard/to sleep on bunker line & at 260650 disrespectful attitude to CO & Lt. Bn 15 for Charlie Company sig, Line # 107 (checkw/S-1 for details) field refusal, had magazine in weapon At 260800....LTC Shannon caught him.

26 Jul 1800

CP / Delta Company at 1800 hrs at grid 141058 while on LP engaged 1 VC wearing camouflaged fatigues at 350 meters With M-60, M-1/6, M-79 fire w/negative results. VC evaded to the SouthWest.

27 Jul 1140

To Bde/Pane by Kennedy: Recon at 1135 hrs at grid 179088 while on patrol detonated a booby trap resulting in 3 US WIA: 1-leg injuries, 1-multiple shrapnel wounds, 1 shrapnel to face and face burns. Booby trap was pressure release type firing device, 60 mm mortar round located in the middle of trail with punji pit beside it. WIA's were evacuated at 1210 hrs to 91st Evacuation Hospital. Bomb crater was 2' deep and 3' in diameter.

1/Delta Company at 1430 hrs at grid 129058 found 21 US trip flares, lot # BX 15-30 made in June 63, type M49A1 OD in color, 1 flashlight, brand name VASA, 6.45 caliber grease gun magazines. All magazines were unserviceable due to rust. Found in a burlap sack 6" underground. 1 magazine was partially sticking out of ground. Negative trails in area, negative hooches. Approx 6 months to 1 year old. All will be destroyed. Was traveling East on East-West trail when mech detonated. Will back haul ASAP, Element followed blood trail approx 75 meters and it ran out w/negative results.

To Bde/Pane by Kennedy: 2/2/Charlie Company at 1545 hrs at grid 179997 had MAP detonate resulting in 1 VC/NVA KIA and 1 blood trail. KIA was a male approx 45 years old and wearing green pants and shirt and HCM sandals. CIA: 1 AK-47, 1 full magazine, 1 VC poncho, 2 bush hats, 1 pen, 1 comb, 1 , lighter, 1 ring, 1 hammock, tobacco, 1 parachute flare , 2 pieces of paper writing and 1 rice bowl.

29 Jul 1620

Charlie Company 1st platoon at 1600 hrs at grid 136995 while on patrol approached a hooch 4' x 5' 8' on East-West trail. Found 1 4' x 4' x 4' bunker, 3 cooking cans, 1 spoon, 2 pots and 3 dishes. Last used 1-3 days. Hooch and bunker w/utensils will be destroyed.

30 Jul 1350

From Recon: 3 sets of footprints .....by far barrels of M-60 range. Followed and lost footprints. Footprints headed to SouthWest at grid 167084.

30 Jul 1750

To Bde/Pane by Blevins: at 1630 hrs at grid 184075 had a sensor activation.VR'd area with RS bird. Spotted 1 VC evading into a clump of brush. Immediately employed Recon. As they were sweeping area spotted 3 trails, 1 NorthEast, 1East, 1 SouthEast. Gunship engaged w/SAF w/negative results.

31 Jul 0001

Alpha Company was CA'd to the AO from Professional and Delta Company was CA'd to Professional and then to Chu Lai by CH-47. Bravo Company was moved by CH-47 from Chu Lai to Professional. Recon moved to Chu Lai by CH-47 from Professional. A Air Cav team working AC 38 spotted 1VC/NVA evading at 1545 hrs at grid 190068 and engaged him. The blues were inserted and confirmed 1 VC/NVA KIA.
